Picotee for the picky

Picotee is the amaryllis (hippeastrum) to give to your pal with uber-refined sensibilities.

You know who I mean: that special someone who’d be appalled by the crimson glow of Red Lion, or who’d find blushing Apple Blossom a tad on the saccharine side.

White with a fine red line at the edge of the petal, Picotee has passed muster with modernist architects of my acquaintance.

Look for it at your independent garden center, or get on the horn to the amaryllis specialists at John Scheepers and order up some of their magnificent bulbs. Potting info here.

Happy, restrained, holidays to you!
